A statement about the activities of the Lazarus Group was also made by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) . It accused members of this and another hacker group, APT3, of stealing the Ethereum cryptocurrency with a total value of $620 million.

“During our investigation, we were able to confirm that Lazarus Group and APT3, entities in cyberspace with links to the DPRK, are responsible for the $620 million Ethereum theft reported on March 29,” the FBI said. Thus, the hackers sought to provide income for the current regime in the DPRK, the intelligence service believes.

The FBI promised to continue to fight cybercrimes of North Korean citizens and other illegal activities of the DPRK together with the US Treasury and the government.

The US imposed sanctions against the Lazarus Group back in 2019. Formerly Russian cybersecurity company Group-IB has come to the conclusion that the North Korean government is behind it.

This group became famous thanks to its attack on the Central Bank of Bangladesh in February 2016, when its members tried to withdraw about $1 billion from accounts. Some of the operations were blocked, and hackers stole only $81 million from the bank. corporate leaks from a Sony-owned film company in 2014.
