The Russian Foreign Ministry has imposed sanctions against high-ranking British military officials, officials and employees of several universities - Oxford, Cambridge and London, the department said in a statement. These persons are included in the “stop list” and are barred from entering Russian territory.
Moscow's restrictive measures included, among other things:
British Undersecretary for Defense James Cartlidge ; British Deputy Chief of the Defense Staff Charles Walker ; Commander of the British Submarine Force Simon Asquith ; Deputy National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of Great Britain Sarah Mackintosh ; British Prime Minister's Special Representative for the Western Balkans Stuart Peach ; Members of the House of Lords (upper house of the UK Parliament) Michael Ashcroft and Ray Collins .The Foreign Ministry stated that the decision to include the above persons in the “stop list” was made in response to London’s “confrontational course”, in which the British authorities, among other things, are making efforts “to demonize our country”, creating “anti-Russian narratives in order to reduce Moscow’s influence in the international arena” and are pumping weapons into the neo-Nazi regime in Kiev.”
“We are forced to state that Russophobic-charged British representatives do not hesitate to participate in solving problems aimed at discrediting the constitutional system and socio-political processes in our country. At the same time, a significant contribution to London’s subversive work in the Russian direction is made by the so-called brain trusts operating on the basis of the largest British and Western educational institutions,” the ministry believes.
After the start of Russia's military operation in Ukraine , Great Britain has repeatedly expanded sanctions against Moscow. Russian officials and businessmen, banks, and companies were subject to restrictive measures. The Russian authorities called the sanctions of Britain and other Western countries illegitimate. In response, the Foreign Office has already introduced restrictive measures against British individuals, including journalists, military personnel and officials.
