RUSSIA is preparing to respond to US and Canadian sanctions , Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement.

She noted that Moscow is preparing a response "for a more focused impact" on Washington and Ottawa. “In conditions when the West, led by the United States, is acting extremely aggressively, not embarrassed in means, Russian counter-sanctions will continue to be built on the basis of the principles of strict reciprocity and the inevitability of punishment,” Zakharova emphasized.

In her opinion, the sanctions of CANADA and the United States are aimed at undermining the industrial and financial potential of Russia and “turning it off” from world economic ties. “These attempts <...> are just as futile and thoughtless as the incantations constantly sounding in the West about the “strategic defeat of Moscow.”
