To obtain the right to join the BRICS countries, Western countries must refuse to apply sanctions against members of the association. This was announced on August 25 during a press conference following the BRICS summit, Deputy Foreign Minister, Russian Sherpa in BRICS Sergey Ryabkov, writes TASS .
“One of the most important parameters and criteria in this area concerns the non-use of illegal sanctions by a potential BRICS member against any member of the association,” Ryabkov said during a press conference following the BRICS summit in Johannesburg. He also noted that all countries recently invited to the BRICS meet this criterion.
Argentina, Egypt , Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were invited to the BRICS on August 24 , their membership will begin in 2024. Another 17 countries have applied to join the association.
The BRICS Summit was held August 22-24 in Johannesburg. Russian President Vladimir Putin took part in the summit online . The other leaders of the association were present in person.
