American Microsoft has stopped warranty service for all Xbox consoles in Russia. This applies even to those set-top boxes that were officially imported into the country, Izvestia was told in the technical support of the company, when the correspondent of the publication applied there as a user.

“Warranty service for consoles, including those officially imported into Russia, is no longer available due to the current situation. We recommend that owners of set-top boxes contact the store where they were purchased, ”said a representative of the technical service.

The presence of the problem was confirmed to Izvestia by the owners of gadgets. One of them could not hand over the console to the Microsoft service for maintenance, despite the fact that he purchased it officially and with a guarantee from the manufacturer, the newspaper writes.

According to Anna Sarbukova, Leading Legal Counsel of the EBR law firm, according to the terms of warranty service posted on the official Microsoft website, Russia is still not excluded from the list of countries where it is carried out. “This document imposes on the company a number of obligations for warranty support,” she stressed.

In Rospotrebnadzor, Izvestia was told that the seller is responsible for the warranty service of the devices, and the consumer has the right to make claims regarding the inadequate quality of the goods.

Microsoft is the largest American software maker. The most famous products are the operating systems of the Windows family, Microsoft Office office suites, software development applications (Visual Studio), various system utilities, as well as business and Internet applications. In 2021, Microsoft's capitalization exceeded $2 trillion.

The company has also been producing Xbox consoles since 2001. Last year, a study by the M.Video-Eldorado retailer stated that in the first eight months of 2022, Sony PlayStation 4 consoles were sold in Russia in quantitative terms, followed by Xbox One S and Nintendo Switch.

Microsoft announced the suspension of activities in Russia in early March 2022, after the start of a military operation in Ukraine. Microsoft's operating expenses due to the curtailment of work in Russia amounted to $126 million, according to the company's annual financial report.
