RUSSIA is aware of the consequences of the decision to recognize the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass, the country has already gone through all this, said Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev.

“We know what will happen next. Again sanctions , threats, political pressure from different sides. Crazy screams and streams of disinformation. We have already gone through all this and have long ceased to be afraid. We have strong nerves,” Medvedev said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

He added that, according to experience, "sooner or later" the opponents themselves will ask Moscow to return to the negotiating table, as this is "inevitable, given the role of Russia in international relations." “History will confirm our correctness,” Medvedev said.

According to him, the decision to recognize the DPR and LPR was “the only possible” to ensure the safety of civilians in Donbass, where almost 800,000 Russian citizens live, whom Russia “did not have the right to abandon.”
