French President Emmanuel Macron is considering introducing food checks for needy households due to rising food prices. He stated this on the air of France Bleu.
“I want to create a food check [program] to help poor families and the middle class cope with this new crisis,” the HEAD of state said.
According to him, the conflict between RUSSIA and Ukraine, two major exporters of agricultural crops, coupled with rising energy prices, could lead to a global food crisis. Macron said France would seek a "coordinated response" from Europe to this situation.
In mid-March, Maximo Torero, Chief Economist of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, warned about the possibility of a global crisis due to a disruption in the supply of agricultural products due to military operations in Ukraine. “We already had problems with food prices. What countries are doing now is exacerbating this, and the war has brought us to a situation from which it is very easy to fall into a food crisis, ”he said.
