Britain has imposed various sanctions against Russia's oil trade—in addition to a ban on the import of petroleum products, sanctions have been imposed on Rosneft and Lukoil, tankers, etc. Moscow has called the restrictions ineffective.

As part of new sanctions against Russia, the UK will stop importing petroleum products derived from Russian oil in third countries, the UK government announced .

"The UK today announced a ban on imports of petroleum products produced in third countries from crude oil of Russian origin," the statement said.

The new sanctions also include:

  • restrictions against LUKOIL and Rosneft companies: freezing of assets, sanctions against trust services and transport;
  • restrictions on the Indian company Nayara Energy (it has its own oil refinery, port and network of gas stations), whose largest shareholder is Rosneft;
  • sanctions against four oil terminals in China and 44 ships that Britain classifies as part of Russia's "shadow fleet";
  • sanctions against the LNG industry: eight tankers for transporting this fuel and a Chinese LNG terminal;
  • Sanctions against the National Payment Card System and a number of banks: Transstroibank, Primsotsbank, BBR Bank, Solid Bank, etc.

"We are sending a clear signal: Russian" Oil is leaving the market," said Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump called on European countries and NATO to stop importing Russian oil and to impose measures against its buyers – China and India, which he called the main sponsors of the conflict in Ukraine .

Vladimir Putin's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, said that the "unprecedented number of sanctions" the West has imposed on Russia over the past four years "has had no effect." He emphasized that these restrictions will not force Moscow to abandon its military operation in Ukraine.

Explaining Trump's desire to force other countries to abandon Russian oil, Peskov told Radio RBC that the American president has never hidden his desire to ensure his country's economic interests and ensure that other countries buy its oil and gas.
