London corrected a mistake in the sanctions against the first deputy director of the FSB

London, justifying the restrictions against Sergei Korolev, stated, that he "benefits from the support of the Russian government"

The British authorities have edited the sanctions list, removing from it a duplicate entry about the first deputy director of the FSB, Sergei Korolev, follows from a document on the website of the government of the United Kingdom.

Korolev previously appeared on the sanctions list twice: as a member of the supervisory board of Rosatom and as deputy director of the FSB. Now the British Ministry of Finance has removed from the sanctions list an entry in which Korolev appeared as a person associated with Rosatom.

The title and the beginning of the text have been changed after clarification of the information on the website of the British government. Initially, the text announced the lifting of sanctions, but later the message of the British Ministry of Finance was adjusted to indicate the technical nature of the changes.

RBC turned to the British Embassy in Russia for comment.

Korolev is a member of the Supervisory Board of Rosatom. He came under sanctions in April 2022, the restrictions included a ban on entering the UK and an asset freeze, if any. In the rationale, London said that Korolev, holding a position in Rosatom, "benefits from the support of the Russian government."

The British authorities called the state corporation "a part of the energy and defense industries that are strategically important for the Russian government." Rosatom was sanctioned by London on February 24, 2023, the anniversary of the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. The company responded by saying that the restrictions "endanger international nuclear security."

More than 1.5 thousand individuals and legal entities from Russia appear on the British sanctions list. Moscow calls the restrictions illegal. The Foreign Office retaliated by banning a number of British politicians and officials, including Foreign Secretary James Cleverley and Chief of Staff Patrick Sanders.
