Lavrov announced the creation in Russia of a base for an analogue of SWIFT

RUSSIA already has a basis for creating an analogue of the international interbank system for transferring information and making payments SWIFT. This was stated in an interview with RIA Novosti by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

The HEAD of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was asked whether the Central Bank's system for transmitting financial messages is an effective germ of an alternative to SWIFT.

"The base exists. And I am convinced that both the government and the Central Bank should do everything to ensure that this base is reliable and guarantees complete independence and a guarantee against damage that someone else may try to inflict on us,” Lavrov replied.

Earlier, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Pankin said that Russia can make interbank payments using other systems if SWIFT is disabled. “We are not refusing SWIFT yet, but if we are denied SWIFT, then we will use [other systems],” Pankin said.
