Lavrov announced his readiness for any development of the situation with US sanctions

RUSSIA is ready for any developments in the issue of US sanctions , Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference. The event is broadcast by RBC.

“You can expect anything from them. But I can assure you that we are ready for any development of events, ”Lavrov said, answering a question about the possibility of Washington imposing sanctions after the involvement of CSTO peacekeepers in Kazakhstan.

He stressed that at first a package of sanctions was being prepared in case of a Russian invasion of Ukraine, and then there were statements about the introduction of measures if Moscow did not withdraw troops from the border with Ukraine, regardless of the “attack”.

On January 12, when consultations were held on security guarantees between Russia, the US and NATO, US senators proposed a new package of sanctions against Russia's public debt, the banking sector and the country's leadership. The proposed measures are related to the situation around Ukraine. The list of those who may be subject to restrictions includes President Vladimir Putin , Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other high-ranking officials. Sanctions were also threatened on a number of Russian organizations, including Sberbank, VTB, VEB and RDIF.

Lavrov on the eve called the draft new sanctions a nervous breakdown. “It is in the endless assertion of their own greatness that people have reached a psychological level that is difficult to explain,” he said.
