Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the US could cheat at any moment. He expressed this opinion at a press conference following a meeting with Venezuelan Foreign Minister Ivan Gil Pinto.

“Everyone knows very well that the United States can cheat at any moment. And much more often they deceive than they fulfill their own promises, their own proposals, ”Lavrov said, answering a question that the United States talked about the possibility of lifting sanctions on Venezuela, but then threatened to tighten restrictions.

Europa Press on April 12, citing a representative of the US State Department, reported that Washington would "review and adjust" sanctions against Venezuela if the country's president does not maintain a dialogue with the opposition and intensifies repression. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro then said that "the representative of the gringo made threats against Venezuela," and sent the representative of the State Department to hell.

The United States severed diplomatic relations with Venezuela, imposed sanctions and closed its embassy in 2019, accusing President Maduro of electoral fraud. Against the background of mass protests in the Republic, Washington supported opposition leader Juan Guaido, and US President Donald Trump proclaimed him the head of the country.
