Lavrov stated that Russia is "not chasing anyone" to lift sanctions.

Sergey Lavrov

RUSSIA is not chasing the West or asking for sanctions to be lifted , Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Kommersant.

The diplomat noted that trade and economic cooperation between Washington and Moscow is “95% blocked” due to sanctions.

"We're not chasing anyone, we're not asking for sanctions to be lifted," said Sergei Lavrov.

But if the US lifts sanctions, Russia "must not become dependent in critical areas," Lavrov emphasized. He recalled the words of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has repeatedly stated that the state "must maintain a sovereign economy."

On April 12, US President Donald Trump extended the state of emergency for one year due to the "malicious activities" of the Russian authorities. The state of emergency was initially declared by former US President Joe Biden on April 15, 2021.

it includes blocking Russian assets and sanctions against specific Russian entities and individuals, as well as secondary sanctions against foreign financial institutions cooperating with the Russian military-industrial complex.

The Kremlin has repeatedly noted that major efforts from both sides are needed to "revive relations" with the US. Moscow considers sanctions illegal.
