Lavrov pointed out the danger of applying sanctions bypassing the UN

Unilateral economic sanctions , which are introduced bypassing the UN, exacerbate the situation and hit the most vulnerable categories of the population. This was announced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference with UN Secretary General António Guterres.

“We see no less serious risks in the context of other illegitimate actions that are committed in circumvention of the UN. I mean, of course, first of all, the use of force without the presence of sanctions from the Security Council, unilateral economic sanctions,” he said.

According to Lavrov, such actions only hinder finding a way out of the current situations.

From Russia's point of view, as the minister clarified, one of the main modern problems is the attempts of some Western countries to "promote unilateral approaches bypassing established collective mechanisms." Lavrov noted that “situational coalitions” and partnerships are being created outside the UN, which arrogate to themselves the right to speak and act on behalf of everyone else.
