RUSSIA will develop bilateral relations with North Korea, despite sanctions against Pyongyang by the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in the “Moscow. Kremlin. Putin,” RIA Novosti reports.
The host of the program, Pavel Zarubin, asked Lavrov if Russia could lift sanctions on the DPRK.
“We did not announce sanctions against North Korea, the Security Council announced,” he replied and called for addressing the issue to the UN Security Council . “We will develop equal, fair interaction with the DPRK,” Lavrov added.
The restrictions that the UN Security Council imposed on the DPRK include, among other things, a ban on the supply of weapons to it. Russia is a permanent member of the UN Security Council with the right of veto.
Earlier, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia maintains its position regarding UN Security Council sanctions against the DPRK, but this does not prevent it from developing relations with North Korea.
Chairman of the State Council of the DPRK Kim Jong-un today completed a six-day visit to Russia.
