RDIF and Arab Fund invest in Telegram

On the evening of March 23, the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) announced that it had invested in Telegram together with a fund from Abu Dhabi (UAE) Mubadala Investment Company. However, Telegram denied the RDIF’s statement, saying that the fund did not participate in the placement of five-year bonds of the messenger and the sale of bonds was completed.

After that, the funds explained to RBC that RDIF acquired a minority stake in Mubadala's investment in Telegram bonds as part of the Russian-Emirati investment platform. RBC's source, close to Telegram, clarified that RDIF purchased bonds on the secondary market for approximately $2 million, but this "has nothing to do with the placement of bonds by the company."
