Russia and Kyrgyzstan are participating in the EAEU integration process , and Bishkek is interested in further development of this format. This was stated by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov in response to a question whether Moscow sees risks for trade and economic relations with Kyrgyzstan against the backdrop of possible US sanctions against the republic.
The Washington Post reported that Washington is preparing sanctions against Kyrgyzstan because of Russia's assistance. Bishkek supplies Russian companies with dual-use goods, including Chinese drones, US officials say .
“In addition to the fact that Kyrgyzstan is our close partner and ally, we are also united by participation in very advanced integration processes. In this case, we are talking about the EurAsEC. This is the very integration that is of great benefit to Kyrgyzstan itself,” Peskov said.
According to him, the Kyrgyz economy is a beneficiary of the further development of this integration process and the countries intend to develop bilateral relations in the future.
The Embassy of Kyrgyzstan in the United States, in response to the publication of The Washington Post, stated that the country's leadership complies with international rules in the fight against smuggling and other illegal trade. The diplomatic mission acknowledged cases of sanctions violations, but called for taking into account the “real economic context”: Russia and Kyrgyzstan are members of the EAEU, and more than a million citizens of the republic work on Russian territory.
