Both houses of the US Congress , the Senate and the House of Representatives, finally approved the results of the elections: Joe Biden is recognized as the winner and the country's next president.

The decision was made only at 3.30 am on January 7, Washington time. Recall that on the eve of the meeting was disrupted by supporters of Donald Trump, who do not recognize the elections and stormed the Capitol building (four people died). The politician himself still does not agree with the defeat; a couple of hours before the assault, he repeated at a rally near the Capitol that the elections had allegedly been "stolen."

it was possible to resume the process in Congress only by 20.00 local time (4.00 on January 7 in MINSK), after the protesters were expelled from the building, and a curfew was introduced in Washington. Then US Vice President Mike Pence and several senators (including those who until recently supported Trump in revising the election results) issued statements condemning the violence and urging respect for the law. And also to confirm the results of the elections.

Those present read out the results of the electoral votes for each state, and heard and voted on objections. During the voting, objections were removed in several states: Nevada, Michigan, Georgia, Pennsylvania (there was a particularly long discussion on it - more than 2 hours). All the electoral votes there went to Biden.

After that, a general decision was made: Joe Biden becomes the 59th President of the United States. He won 306 electoral votes (270 were needed to win). Biden's inauguration will take place on January 20, after which he will officially take office.

“While I completely disagree with the election results, and the facts are on my side, there will be a peaceful transition on January 20,” Trump’s aide tweeted.
