China warns of undermining confidence in the EU in case of sanctions against Beijing Chinese

Foreign Ministry spokesmanpromised that the country would take retaliatory measures in the event of sanctions against companies that Brussels suspects of providing assistance to Russia. Beijing has repeatedly said

If the European Union imposes sanctions on Chinese companies for alleged ties to Russia, it will destroy trust and cooperation between Beijing and Brussels, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a briefing.

He urged the EU authorities "not to make a mistake", warning that otherwise Beijing "will be forced to resolutely defend its rationally justified legal rights" ( quoted by TASS ).

On the eve of the Financial Times, citing sources, the European Commission for the first time since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine thought about imposing restrictions on seven Chinese companies for the supply of equipment to Russia, which, according to Brussels, is used for military purposes. We are talking about enterprises that work in the development of semiconductors, microchips and electronics: HC Semiconductors, King-Pai Technology, as well as Hong Kong's Sinno Electronics, Sigma Technology, Asia Pacific Links, Tordan Industry and Alpha Trading Investments.

The newspaper wrote that these measures are being discussed as part of the preparation of the 11th package of sanctions against Russia, for their approval, the consent of all EU member states is required. Some of the Chinese companies are already on the US sanctions list .

China did not join the sanctions against Russia imposed by Western countries in response to the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine. At the same time, Beijing said that they would not intentionally bypass the restrictions. Despite this, Washington threatened China with measures in the event of the supply of weapons to the Russian side. Wang Wenbin called reports about the transfer of weapons to Moscow slander and recalled that Beijing called for negotiations from the very beginning of hostilities. China stressed that it is not a party to the conflict.

In late April, the FT reported that the EU was considering imposing export restrictions on states that re-export sanctioned products to Russia. According to Bloomberg , Brussels is discussing the creation of a mechanism that will affect third countries that help Moscow bypass restrictions. It will create two sanctions lists: one consisting of third countries, and the other of prohibited goods. At first, the measures are unlikely to affect China, the agency noted, they will be aimed at the countries of Central Asia and Russia's neighbors.
