Kazakh businessman Rakishev intends to sell his bank in Belarus in 2021

Kazakh businessman Kenes Rakishev told Interfax that he intends to sell BTA Bank in MINSK next year. In addition, it turned out that a citizen of Belarus could become a buyer of his Ukrainian bank.

BTA Bank, once one of the largest banks in Kazakhstan, found itself in a difficult financial situation due to the machinations of the former owners. A few years ago, the bank passed the banking license and is now actually an asset management company.

— We have made a decision for ourselves to sell all subsidiary banks with licenses and we are moving towards this progressively. Last year we sold BTA Kyrgyzstan. This year we want to complete the deal on BTA Ukraine by the end of the year. And next year, if everything goes well, the situation in Belarus stabilizes, we want to sell BTA Belarus. Although now we don’t have a buyer for BTA Belarus yet, we are only negotiating so far,” Rakishev explained.

On Monday, the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine allowed an individual, a citizen of Belarus, to buy over 50% of the shares of BTA Bank (Ukraine) JSC.

Now Rakishev is waiting for permission for the deal from the NATIONAL BANK of Ukraine.

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine does not disclose either the name of the potential buyer or the terms of the deal.

Earlier it was reported that a Ukrainian businessman with a Belarusian passport Artur Grants could buy a bank in Ukraine.

Artur Granz is the Honorary Consul of the Congo in Belarus. Its parent company BF Capital owns assets in real estate, agricultural business, duty-free shops in Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Belarus. The businessman is associated with the largest chain of jewelry stores in Belarus, Ziko. BF Capital is also one of the sponsors of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus.

Recently it became known that the owners of MTBank are planning to buy out Idea Bank, which is now owned by the Polish Getin Holding.
