
New Canadian sanctions against Russia will affect oligarchs, individuals close to the “regime” in the country, as well as individuals and enterprises from the defense sector, according to a message on the website of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following his visit to Kiev.
“The imposition of sanctions against 21 more Russian individuals, including oligarchs and close accomplices of the Russian regime, and <...> 19 individuals in the Russian defense sector and five organizations for providing indirect or direct support to the Russian military,” the message says.
Earlier, Trudeau, speaking at a press conference after talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on May 8, said that more than 40 defense industry representatives and businessmen, as well as five legal entities, would fall under the new restrictions.

Zelensky on his Telegram channel said that during the meeting he informed the Canadian prime minister about the weapons that Ukraine needs and agreed with Trudeau "to work together on solutions for post-war reconstruction."
