Canada imposed sanctions against six television channels closed in Moldova

CANADA has imposed sanctions against six Moldovan television channels, accusing them of disinformation when covering Russia's military operation in Ukraine , the press service of the country's government reports.

We are talking about the TV channels “First in Moldova”, RTR, Accent TV, NTV Moldova, TV6 and Orhei TV, whose broadcasting licenses were revoked in December 2022. The decision was explained by a “biased and manipulative” reflection of events in Moldova and the conflict in Ukraine.

In addition, personal sanctions were imposed against deputy Ilan Shor, who controls these channels. In 2019, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Moldova put him on the international wanted list; since the fall of 2022, Shor has been under US and UK sanctions .

According to Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly, support for the armed conflict in Ukraine by “slanderous individuals and organizations” will not go unpunished.

“We continue to condemn this conflict in the strongest possible terms and reaffirm our unwavering support for Moldova and Ukraine as they defend their independence, rights and freedoms,” she added.

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova , said on October 17 that Moldova accuses RUSSIA “of all mortal sins” without evidence.

She called the accusations of undermining the constitutional order, energy blackmail, spreading disinformation and lies “a 180-degree turn for Moldova.”

The statement was made in connection with the adoption by Moldova of a new national security strategy.
