CANADA, following the United States , Britain and Australia, imposed sanctions due to Navalny's death in the colony. Six people were placed under restrictions, including the HEAD of the colony.

Canada has imposed sanctions against six Russians who, according to Ottawa, are involved in the death of  Alexei Navalny . The list is published on the website of the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The restrictions included:

Head of the penal colony IK-3 “Polar Wolf” (where Navalny died) Vadim Kalinin; Investigator Alexander Varapaev; Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Igor Rakitin; Prosecutor Marina Bobek; Prosecutor Ekaterina Frolova; Judge Kirill Nikiforov.

They are now banned from entering Canada and their assets in the country are subject to freezing.

The death of Navalny in the Polar Wolf colony, where he was serving his sentence, was announced by the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Yamal Autonomous Okrug on the afternoon of February 16. The department said that he became ill while walking and almost immediately lost consciousness. Doctors were unable to save his life after trying to revive him for more than half an hour. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the Federal Penitentiary Service is conducting an investigation, and doctors must find out the cause of the incident.

Navalny was buried on March 1 at the Borisov Cemetery in Moscow. Canadian Ambassador Sarah Taylor attended the funeral along with diplomats from other countries.

The United States, Britain and Australia have already imposed sanctions on RUSSIA due to the death of the oppositionist .

In February, after the death of the oppositionist, the Canadian Foreign Ministry summoned Russian Ambassador Oleg Stepanov and expressed its condemnation to him. Stepanov said later: “The death of any person is always a tragedy, but Navalny was a Russian citizen, so the investigation into the circumstances of his death is being conducted by Russia and this is an internal matter of Russia.”
