CANADA has imposed sanctions against 16 Moldovan politicians and two opposition blocs, the country's Foreign Ministry reported.
The restrictive measures were imposed due to "Russia's interference in Moldova's affairs" ahead of the upcoming parliamentary elections. Russian authorities have repeatedly emphasized that Moscow has not interfered, nor does it interfere, in the internal affairs of other countries. "All these accusations are nothing more than completely unsubstantiated insinuations," emphasized presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov .
Sanctions were imposed on convicted HEAD of Gagauzia Eugenia Gutsul, former head of Gagauzia Irina Vlah, as well as the opposition bloc "Victory" and the association of veterans of security agencies "Shield of the People" (Scutul Poporului), whose leader is Chiril Guzun, who was also subject to restrictive measures.
Also subject to restrictive measures were: Deputy Gutsul Mikhail Vlah, Gutsul adviser Yuri Kuznetsov, First Deputy Ilia Uzun, Deputy Gutsul Viktor Petrov, founder of the Russian ANO Eurasia Nelli Parutenko, leader of the Revival Party Natalia Parasca, manager of the structures, one of which owns the Moldovan television channels TV6 and Orhei TV, Dumitru Chitoroaga, Dumitru Buimistru, leader of the Chance Party Alexei Lungu, Veaceslav Valiko, Victoria Furtuna and members of parliament Irina Lozovan and Alexander Nesterovsky.
On August 5, a Chisinau COURT sentenced Gutsul to seven years in prison for "illegal financing of political parties and election campaigns, and violating procedures for managing the financial resources of political parties and election funds." Gutsul called this an attempt to intimidate the residents of the autonomous region and a "sentence" to the entire Moldovan government system.
