Canada announces sanctions against Russian senators

Canada is imposing sanctions against 160 members of the Federation Council because of the military operation in Ukraine, the press service of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said. He announced the new restrictive measures during a speech in Brussels, where Western leaders are holding EU, NATO and G7 summits.

“The imposition of new sanctions in accordance with the Regulations on Special Economic Measures ( Russia ) against 160 members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation for facilitating and allowing violations of the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” the report says.

Also, in the coming days, additional sanctions will be imposed on the export of goods and technologies to Russia.

In addition, Canada announced the allocation of the second tranche of humanitarian assistance to Ukraine and its neighbors, including Moldova, as well as to UN agencies, the Red Cross and other organizations in the amount of $50 million to immediately provide assistance to all those in need, the report says. Canada will allocate $4.8 million to UNESCO for the protection of the cultural heritage of Ukraine.
