Canada and Australia imposed sanctions against Russia because of the DNR and LNR

The authorities of CANADA and Australia have imposed sanctions against RUSSIA due to the recognition of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the "first round" of economic sanctions, reports CTV. The restrictions will affect deputies who supported the recognition of the independence of the DNR and LNR. In addition, Canadians were banned from financial transactions with the republics.

“Recognition is a violation of Russia's obligations under the UN Charter. Canada also condemns the actions of the Russian military, including orders to advance into Ukraine, which is clearly an attack on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine,” Trudeau said.

Russian Ambassador to Ottawa Oleg Stepanov, commenting on the decision of the Canadian authorities to RIA Novosti, said that these measures would not affect "the policy and practical line of Russia aimed at ensuring peace in the Donbass."
