Italian tax police on Monday, July 29, seized the real estate and assets of an unnamed Russian businessman worth about $44.4 million, Florence prosecutors said.

As the department noted, the arrest was made after a request for international legal assistance sent by Ukraine. The Italian prosecutor's office noted that the Russian businessman is under investigation for fraud against a Ukrainian state-owned company involved in the sale of agricultural products, bribery of government officials and money laundering.

Local newspaper Corriere Fiorentino claims that the person involved in the investigation is Russian businessman Alexey Fedorychev, who owns the historical castle of Torro del Gallo in the Tuscan capital. Two sources reported the same to REUTERS .

As Reuters notes, today Fedorychev is the chairman and founder of Fedcom Group, a global leader in logistics, shipping and commodity trading. Also, since January 2022, he has been the president of the French basketball club Monaco.

The SBU began investigative actions against Fedorychev back in 2016. According to the intelligence service, in 2015, the company of a businessman who owned a private sea terminal in the Odessa region illegally registered the rights to receive part of the funds from port dues, which by that time were going to the State Enterprise “Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine.” The SBU then estimated the damage from Fedorychev’s actions at $6 million.
