Ex-Prime Minister of Ukraine sued the SBU and the National Security and Defense Council because of the sanctions against him

Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov has filed a lawsuit against the Security Service (SBU) and the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) of the country in an attempt to challenge the sanctions imposed against him , according to the Kyiv District Administrative Court.

The court clarified that among the requirements of the lawsuit is the recognition of the unlawful inaction of the SBU. According to Azarov, it consists in not submitting a proposal to the Security Council of Ukraine to lift sanctions against him.

In addition, the plaintiff asks to recognize the inactivity of the National Security and Defense Council itself as unlawful, since it did not decide to lift the sanctions against the ex-premier.

In March 2021, the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions on former Prime Minister Azarov, ex-head of state Viktor Yanukovych and a number of other ex-officials of the country. According to the head of the SBU, they were in contact with the Russian special services, which led to the events in Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
