US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the US is exploring the possibility of further sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. At the same time, he noted that the new administration has been in power for only five weeks, and the gas pipeline is already 95% built.

The statements were made at congressional hearings on the foreign policy priorities of the new administration. The broadcast was conducted on the channel of the State Department on the YouTube service.

“We continue to explore the possibilities of sanctions going forward,” Blinken said.

“President Biden thinks this [building Nord Stream 2] is a bad idea. He has repeatedly stated this. I share his point of view. This violates the principles of European energy security,” said the HEAD of the State Department.

According to him, the construction of the gas pipeline undermines the strategic prospects of Ukraine and Poland. At the same time, he stated that the gas pipeline had almost been built, but did not name specific sanctions against it.
