Alexei Komissarov, acting rector of the Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), general DIRECTOR of the ANO RUSSIA — Land of Opportunities, left the board of directors of Yandex, the company said.

“Aleksey Komissarov resigned from the board of directors of the company, the decision takes effect immediately. Mr. Komissarov was elected as an independent non-executive director on December 20, 2019,” the company said in a statement.

Yandex noted that the European Union imposed sanctions against Komissarov. However, these are personal sanctions, while "neither Yandex nor the group's subsidiaries have been included in the sanctions lists of the European Union, the United States, the United Kingdom or Switzerland."

RBC's source in Yandex said that Komissarov was expelled from the board of directors by the decision of the company due to falling under sanctions.

Alexey Komissarov confirmed to RBC that he wrote a statement about his resignation from the board of directors of Yandex, but did not name the reason for this decision.

Komissarov is also co-chairman of the central headquarters of the All-Russian Popular Front. His name was mentioned in the tenth EU sanctions package, which was announced on February 25.

In support of the sanctions, the EU reported that under the patronage of the ONF, campaigns are being held to support the Russian military special operation in Ukraine, in particular the “Everything for Victory!” campaign, which includes the collection of donations to support the military units of the DPR and LPR.

As part of the tenth package, about 90 individuals were on the list, including senators, deputies, members of the Human Rights Council, two deputy ministers, military leaders, media managers, and journalists.

On the anniversary of the special operation in Ukraine, the EU also imposed restrictions on three banks (Tinkoff, Alfa-Bank and Rosbank), Russia Today and Patriot media groups, the All-Russian Popular Front (ONF), the National Welfare Fund (NWF), the Russian national reinsurance company (RNRC), etc. The EU sanctions also included dual-use goods, electronics, specialized vehicles, spare parts for cars and jet engines, goods for the construction sector and a number of other positions.
