Foreign Minister of Mali compared the number of victims of terrorism and the food crisis

Mali is concerned about food problems, as hunger leads to more victims than terrorism, Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

“Our country is already facing security problems: terrorists are killing a lot of people. But according to the statistics that international organizations provide us, food security problems provoke much more victims than terrorist attacks,” Diop said.

According to the minister, residents of poor countries, who are consumers of wheat, supplied mainly from RUSSIA and Ukraine, will actually be "sentenced to death." “That is, poor citizens who did not have enough money to buy these products cannot even find them on the market,” the diplomat said.

Diop noted that Mali appreciates Russia's willingness to help the country solve food problems by providing access "to grain, fertilizers and other resources." Separately, the minister stressed that sanctions under any circumstances are not a solution.

"I'm not going to blame any side, but I can say for sure that the sanctions only complicate the situation," Diop said. He also pointed out that "Western sanctions generally affect everyone", "paralyzed the economic system" and directly relate to the food situation in the world.

The Russian minister said following the meeting that the parties discussed "practical aspects of organizing supplies from Russia so necessary to the Malians in the context of Western illegitimate sanctions of wheat, mineral fertilizers and oil products." Earlier, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry Oleg Ozerov said that several African states asked Moscow to supply fertilizers and food, and the Russian government is dealing with this issue.
