Possible sanctions against RUSSIA in the event of its invasion of Ukraine will include blocking the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on the RTL radio station.
According to the minister, this is one of the measures that is designed to show Moscow that military aggression against Kyiv will entail serious risks for it.
Speaking about the possibility of an invasion, Le Drian said that "of course there is a risk" of such a development. “The ball is on the side of [Russian President Vladimir] Putin,” the minister said, adding that Moscow was interested in “the concept of limited sovereignty” over Ukraine.

According to Le Drian, the Ukrainian crisis will be one of the topics of a telephone conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and Putin, which will take place later on Friday, January 28. Macron announced his desire to call Putin earlier this week, while promising that if Ukraine is attacked, “retaliation will follow and the price [for Russia] will be very high.”
