The head of Georgia refused to deprive the prosecutor general of citizenship for connections with the FSB

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to deprive former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze of Georgian citizenship, who came under American sanctions on charges of having links with the Russian FSB. This was reported on the website of the HEAD of state.

“Based on the interests of the state, the President of Georgia does not consider it advisable to terminate his Georgian citizenship at this stage. The President believes that if Otar Partskhaladze should be punished, then he should be punished precisely as a citizen of Georgia,” the statement says.

Earlier, a message appeared on the website of the Georgian Ministry of Justice about the launch of the procedure for depriving Partskhaladze of citizenship.

Washington imposed sanctions against Partskhaladze on September 14. The documents refer to him as “a Russian oligarch of Georgian origin, whom the FSB used to influence Georgian society and pursue policies in favor of RUSSIA.”
