Approximately 110 Italian companies have production facilities in RUSSIA, Vittorio Torrembini, president of the Association of Italian Entrepreneurs in Russia (GIM Unimpresa), said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
According to him, these companies produce products (pasta, cheese , sausages ), building materials, some are engaged in pharmaceuticals and chemistry.
“Most of my compatriots still work in Russia. These are 150 private companies that are part of GIM Unimpresa. 99% of the employees working in them, approximately 65 thousand people, are Russians . The annual turnover of these companies is almost €6 billion,” Torrembini said.
In April, he told RBC that Italian companies have no plans to leave the Russian market and they have plans for new investments in industries such as building materials and food . At the same time, he noted that the companies remaining to work in Russia face significant difficulties. “The difficulties are huge - logistical, financial, in the banking sector, the pressure they receive from the authorities in Italy and Europe. Nevertheless, our firms are strong enough not to fall under the influence of restrictions, ”Torrembini assured.
From the beginning of the Russian special military operation until the end of 2022, 8.5% of Western companies left Russia, according to a study by economists from the Swiss IMD Institute and the University of St. Gallen Niccolo Pisani and Simon Evenett. Of the departed, about 18% of subsidiaries are from the United States , 15% from Japan and 8.3% from the European Union. Among those remaining in Russia, 19.5% is accounted for by companies from Germany.
