New sanctions by the Group of Seven (G7) countries against Russia will depend on Moscow's willingness to participate in a peaceful settlement in Ukraine , Reuters reports , citing a statement from the group.
The document states that Moscow's "genuine, good-faith efforts" to end the conflict will be taken into account. Russia's steps within the framework of the settlement should ensure Kyiv's "long-term security and stability as a sovereign, independent country," Reuters quotes the statement.
In mid-December, the European Union adopted its latest round of sanctions against Russia, the 15th. The list includes 54 individuals and 32 organizations, including those from China , India, Iran, Serbia, and the United Arab Emirates. EU authorities believe these companies are involved in circumventing trade restrictions and supplying Russia with sensitive goods that could be used for military purposes.
In early 2025 , Sweden, Denmark, Finland , Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia called on the European Commission to lower the price ceiling for Russian oil , set by the G7 countries at $60 per barrel. The document did not specify the size of the new price cap. The authors of the document noted that oil exports are Russia's most important source of income.
Moscow considers Western restrictions illegal and insists on their lifting.
