The new 17th package of sanctions against RUSSIA includes restrictions on 189 tankers that transport Russianoil under the flags of foreign countries, reports the HEAD of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
"And we have added another 189 shadow fleet vessels to the list that will be targeted against Russian energy exports," von der Leyen wrote in her H.
The EU agreed on a new package of sanctions on May 14, AFP reported, citing diplomats. The Financial Times previously wrote that the restrictions would also apply to companies from third countries, including the UAE, Turkey, Serbia, Vietnam and Uzbekistan, which are suspected of helping Russia evade sanctions.
The day before, on May 13, the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas said that the package could be adopted at the EU Foreign Affairs Council on May 20. The Russian authorities consider the sanctions illegal. The Kremlin stated that intimidating Russia with sanctions is a waste of time, Moscow knows what to do.
