
Wanted by the United States on suspicion of cybercrime, Russian Evgeny Polyanin may be in Barnaul. This follows from the data on the search for Polyanin, which was distributed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
“Polyanin, we believe, is in RUSSIA, probably in Barnaul,” the orientation reads.
On October 8, Polyanin and Ukrainian citizen Yaroslav Vasinsky were included in the US sanctions list SDN (Specially Designated Nationals And Blocked Persons List). Those on this list are frozen assets they own in the United States. American citizens are prohibited from doing business with those on the list. Polyanin and Vasinsky are believed to be involved in the REvil hacker group, also known as Sodinokibi, which engaged in extortion and received ransoms worth more than $200 million, paid in bitcoin and the Monero cryptocurrency.

According to the US Treasury Department, Vasinsky used ransomware against at least nine US companies. He is also, according to Washington, behind the attack on it company Kaseya this summer, which caused failures in the computer networks of its customer base.
