The EU is working on new sanctions against Russia, but they will not affect the energy sector, Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs, said at an economic forum in Italy, Agenzia Nova reports.

“First of all, we are working to limit the ability to bypass [already imposed sanctions],” he said.

According to Gentiloni, sanctions against Russia are "a price that [EU countries] must pay together." He suggested that the growth of the European economy will slow down, but there will be no recession. “Thanks to the growth that we achieved in 2021, I believe that we will be able to maintain sustainable growth in 2022,” the European Commissioner added.
