EU bans aircraft sales to Russia

The EU has announced sanctions against the Russian transport sector, which include a ban on the sale of aircraft and aircraft parts, the EU Council said in a statement.

The Union introduced a ban on the EXPORT to RUSSIA of goods and technologies used in the aviation and space sectors, as well as a ban on insurance and maintenance of goods related to these industries.

“This ban on the sale of all aircraft, spare parts and equipment to Russian airlines will worsen the condition of one of the key sectors of the Russian economy and domestic travel, since three-quarters of Russia’s current commercial air fleet was built in the EU, US and CANADA,” Brussels said in a statement. .

In a separate EU document - a regulation detailing the sanctions regime - it is stated that the sale, supply, transfer, export for any organization of goods and technologies intended for use in the aviation or space industry is prohibited to Russia.
