The Union strongly condemns the decision of a Moscow COURT to sentence opposition politician, democratic activist and outspoken Kremlin critic Vladimir Kara-Murza to 25 years in prison on politically motivated charges. The Union calls on Russia to immediately and unconditionally release all prisoners on politically motivated charges.

The following were sanctioned:

In March, the United States imposed its own restrictions on three people .

The Russian embassy in Washington called the sanctions interference in internal affairs, and Security Council deputy chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that Britain "was, is and will be our eternal enemy."

The Moscow City Court sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in a strict regime colony on charges of treason and fakes about the army on April 17. The oppositionist pleaded not guilty and stated that he was being persecuted for his political views. The United States, CANADA , Britain and the European Union criticized Moscow because of the verdict . The Foreign Ministry, in response, called the ambassadors of Western countries and expressed a strong protest to them, calling the statements about the court's decision interference in Russia's internal affairs.
