The EU added 33 Russians to its sanctions list, whom it considered involved in Navalny’s death. The list includes the HEAD of penal colony No. 3 and his deputies, heads of departments of the Ministry of Justice, judges, etc. RUSSIA assesses Western sanctions as illegal

The European Union imposed sanctions against two organizations and 33 Russians in connection with the death of Alexei Navalny . The list is published on the official EU website.

In particular, the sanctions list included:

  • Governor of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, where Navalny died in the Polar Wolf colony, Dmitry Artyukhov;
  • the head of IK-3 “Polar Wolf” Vadim Kalinin and his five deputies, as well as the heads of the departments of the Federal Penitentiary Service and the Ministry of Justice for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Igor Rakitin and Oleg Sevostyanov;
  • Head of the Department of State Policy in the Sphere of Execution of Criminal Sentences of the Ministry of Justice Vladimir Shvedov;
  • judges of the Kovrov City COURT Kirill Nikiforov and Dmitry Samoilov;
  • judges of the Moscow City Court Andrey Suvorov and Ilnar Bamsyrov;
  • judges of the Basmanny Court of Moscow Evgenia Nikolaeva and Natalia Dudar;
  • Judge of the Khimki City Court Elena Morozova;
  • Judge of the Moscow Regional Court Musa Musaev;
  • Judge of the Lefortovo District Court of Moscow Sergei Ryabtsev;
  • retired Supreme Court judge Yuri Sitnikov and others.

Also, two correctional colonies fell under European sanctions—IK No. 3 and IK No. 6, where Navalny was held at different times.

The department of the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug reported the death of Navalny in the Polar Wolf colony on the afternoon of February 16. The department said that he became ill while walking and almost immediately lost consciousness. Doctors were unable to save his life after trying to revive him for more than half an hour. Navalny's mother was given a medical report, which stated that the causes of his death were natural.

The oppositionist was buried on March 1 at the Borisov Cemetery in Moscow.

The United States , Great Britain , CANADA and Australia have already imposed sanctions against Russia due to Navalny's death . The Kremlin called statements by Western leaders about the responsibility of the Russian authorities for the death of Navalny as boorish.
