
The European Union has extended for one year, until December 8, 2022, the sanctions regime against people and organizations involved in the violation of human rights, according to the website of the European Council.
The EU approved a global sanctions regime for human rights violations on December 7, 2020. As part of this regime, Brussels imposed sanctions in connection with the situation around opposition leader Alexei Navalny. The list includes the HEAD of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin, Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, the head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Alexander Kalashnikov and the head of the National Guard Viktor Zolotov.
In total, 14 people and four organizations fell under the sanctions - from Russia, CHINA , Libya, South Sudan, Eritrea and North Korea.
Being on the sanctions list implies a ban on individuals from traveling to the countries of the bloc and freezing assets in the EU.
