The European Union has decided to suspend the simplified visa regime for Belarusian officials. This is stated in the statement of the European Council.
The Council today decided to partially suspend the application of the visa facilitation agreement between the EU and Belarus.
We are talking about a number of agreements that abolish the requirement for "officials of the Belarusian regime" to provide supporting documents when applying for a multiple-entry visa and reduce the amount of the visa fee, the report says. The decision will not affect ordinary citizens of Belarus, who will continue to enjoy benefits under the visa facilitation agreement.
The message of the European Council says that this step is a response to the attempts of the Belarusian regime to use the migration crisis as an instrument of pressure on the EU.
