The HEAD of EU diplomacy, Borrell, hopes that the European Union will not have to completely abandon Russian energy resources. At the same time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the country would give up Russian oil .this year

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, in an interview with Spiegel, expressed hope that the EU would not have to completely stop importing oil and gas from RUSSIA in the event of a further escalation of the situation in Ukraine.

"I hope no. 40% of our gas imports come from Russia. You can’t just replace it overnight,” the head of European diplomacy stressed, answering a question about a possible complete ban on the import of Russian energy resources.

Concerning the issue of sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia, Borrell noted that they are "very effective" and "so far necessary." According to him, the most severe of them was the freezing of assets of the Central Bank. However, Borrell stressed that sanctions in and of themselves are not the solution to the problem. In his opinion, the only way to find a solution to the conflict is through diplomacy.

At the same time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the country will abandon Russian oil during this year "as another economic blow," according to a message on the website of the British government.

“We are confident that this can be achieved within a year, giving companies enough time to adjust and protecting consumers,” Johnson said.
