Russia is facing a "severe" three-year crisis provoked by the conflict in Ukraine. This was stated by Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska, speaking at the Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum.
“I understand this better than others. When people tell you: will they lower the Iron Curtain or not? The Iron Curtain has already been lowered. <...>. The crisis (waiting for the country -) for at least three years is the most severe. Multiply the 1998 crisis by at least three,” he said (cited by Interfax).
At the same time, he stated that the Iron Curtain would need to be reopened. “The first step is peace. The second step is to honestly discuss where we live, how we live, under what conditions, who commands what, what risks it carries, of course, it is important to raise the population. I am opposed to the most severe financial pressure, it (the population of Russia. -) is not to blame for anything, ”added the businessman.
Deripaska also clarified that in three weeks it would become clear what exactly happened to Russia's state-owned banks as a result of the sanctions.
The meeting was broadcast, in particular, on the forum's official YouTube channel. After it ended, the video of Deripaska's speech was corrected (the full version is still available on other channels of the organizers; RBC recorded the changes after the businessman's phrase "and I am very much asked not to talk about this topic"). From the published version, in particular, his wish that “peace should be established first, after all, this is important, when this happens every day, this, of course, is an absolute loss,” disappeared.
