Britain imposed sanctions against AlfaStrakhovanie and VSK

Britain also imposed sanctions on 30 vessels (mostly tankers). Moscow considers the sanctions illegal.

The UK has imposed sanctions against AlfaStrakhovanie and the VSK insurance house, according to a document on the British government website.

The sanctions include freezing the assets of insurance companies in the UK , as well as a ban on trust services. London cited "receiving benefits from or supporting the Russian government by doing business in a sector of strategic importance" as the justification for sanctions against AlfaStrakhovanie . VSK has a similar justification for being included in the sanctions list.

VSK told RBC that they had worked out all the necessary response measures in advance in case of sanctions, "there was quite enough time for this." "Therefore, the presence of restrictions will in no way affect the financial stability and creditworthiness of the VSK Group and VSK Insurance House. All of the company's reserves are placed in reliable assets in the country," the insurer points out.

He adds that the group’s companies continue to operate as usual and carry out operations to conclude and settle insurance claims.

Also, 30 “Russia-linked” vessels were subject to new sanctions, bringing the total number of vessels subject to sanctions to 90. Among the new vessels added to the sanctions list are the tanker Mikati, which flies the flag of Sierra Leone, Neomi (flagged in Panama), Python (flagged in Barbados), Chilli (flagged in Antigua and Barbuda), and others.

RBC sent a request to AlfaStrakhovanie.

Since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, Britain has imposed a number of sanctions against Moscow. The most recent one, on November 19, was the Yunarmiya movement. The sanctions list also included the Avangard military-patriotic education center in Odintsovo near Moscow, the chief of the Yunarmiya general staff Nikita Nagorny, and the HEAD of the Kherson orphanage Tatyana Zavalskaya, who, as The New York Times wrote, was accused of taking 46 children to RUSSIA for adoption.

Moscow condemns the sanctions and considers them illegal. The Kremlin emphasizes that they will not affect Russia's military operation, but will worsen economic problems in the states that impose the restrictions.
