The Bulgarian Cabinet of Ministers, as an exception, allowed the Kozloduy nuclear power plant to purchase the necessary equipment and materials from RUSSIA, Energy Minister Rosen Hristov said, according to the Novosti 247 portal.

“We are talking about emergency parts, services and materials for which we have not yet found other suppliers. We continue the process of selecting new contractors. Another area we are working on is the replenishment of reserves with such elements to ensure the harmless use of the Kozloduy nuclear power plant for the coming years and the energy security of the country,” Khristov explained. He added that these materials are needed for the planned annual repair of the station.

Nuclear power plant "Kozloduy" is located on the banks of the Danube, 5 km from the city of Kozloduy. Its electric power is 2,000 MW. Rosatom supplies two modernized Soviet-made VVER-1000 power units, including nuclear fuel, the Dir.bg portal reported, cited by Inosmi.

On February 25, the European Union imposed sanctions against 96 companies from Russia. The restrictions included critical technologies and industrial goods, as well as dual-use goods. The EU also introduced a ban on the provision of gas storage facilities.
