The European Union is considering a new package of sanctions against Russia, which could include trade restrictions of $5.3 billion, writes Bloomberg . Export restrictions may be imposed on welding machines, chemicals and technologies used in the defense sector, sources told the agency. Bans on software licensing and restrictions on the import of metals and aluminum products, among other things, are possible, the agency writes.

As for the ban on the export of Russian diamonds, which Ursula von der Leyen called a key point of the new package, IT still depends on the adoption of a document limiting cross-border traffic of precious stones.

According to the agency, the new - 12th - sanctions package will include 100 individuals, as well as about 40 legal entities.

Bloomberg's interlocutors also reported on the EU's plans to impose additional sanctions on companies that help circumvent anti-Russian restrictions. The issue of sanctions against ships that transport goods prohibited by Brussels is also being discussed.

The European Commission launched a consultation with member states on this issue in October.

According to the rules, all 27 EU countries must support the new sanctions. On October 28, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said his country would not support the 12th package if it could harm the Hungarian economy. According to Bloomberg, the proposal for sanctions has not yet been submitted for final discussion.

Russian authorities consider Western sanctions illegal. “No sanctions, even the most stringent ones, have ever in any part of the world led to those countries against whom they were imposed somehow changing their position,” emphasized Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov .
