The United States plans to achieve a complete halt to the Nord Stream 2 project if Russia nevertheless starts military operations in Ukraine. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the plans of the White House.
According to one of the interlocutors of the agency, Washington is now seeking Germany to commit itself to abandon the gas pipeline in the event of Russia's "invasion" of Ukraine.
Other options being discussed include sanctions against Russian banks and exports of Russian goods.
The aim of these discussions, Bloomberg says, is to agree on a package of sanctions that is both fast-acting, comprehensive, and “economically painful” enough to act as a deterrent.
RBC sent a request to the press service of Nord Stream 2.
