Blinken announced the US position on Nord Stream 2 after the data on sanctions

The United States is opposed to the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a telephone conversation with German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas. This was reported on the website of the State Department.

During the conversation, Blinken stressed the United States' commitment to working with allies and partners "to counter Russia's attempts to undermine collective security," and in this regard, said that Washington opposes the pipeline.

A State Department spokesman told TASS that the United States will continue to study the organizations involved in the construction of the gas pipeline. “We have made it clear that companies participating in Nord Stream 2 are at risk of being subject to sanctions,” the official said.

On the evening of May 18, the Axios portal reported, citing sources, that the administration of President Joe Biden plans to lift sanctions against the gas pipeline operator, Nord Stream 2 AG, and its chief executive Matthias Warnig. Despite the fact that their activities are subject to sanctions, the State Department will not apply them, citing US national interests, the sources said. According to the publication, restrictive measures will be introduced against several ships participating in the project.
